Since January 1, many models have passed the fateful 30 years mark to become collector cars. Find out which ones.
Another year has passed, and now it’s time for new cars to pass the 30s mark. A fateful step in a life and often synonymous with changes, both for us and for our cars. And yes, because who says thirty years says passage to the status of collector’s vehicle, which opens to certain advantages, and not the least. Like every year, Auto-Moto therefore invites you to take a brief overview of the models passing this famous milestone, that is to say in 2021 all those having been launched in 1991. As a reminder, last year was a very good vintage in terms of new collector’s vehicles, with among others the inevitable Mazda MX-5, but also the Renault Clio, which was celebrating its 30th anniversary. Not to mention the equally legendary Lamborghini Diablo and other Land Rover Defenders, among others. A nice list which also included lesser-known models, like the Toyota Previa or the Fiat Tempra.
This year, it is therefore the turn of a new salvo of cars to celebrate their long-awaited anniversary, with models from all walks of life and all nationalities. Let us mention among them the essential Citroen ZX as well as the Peugeot 106, two legendary cars in their own way. The Fiat Cinquecento is also part of the celebration, while the heiress of the Fiat 126 received this name to pay tribute to his grandmother, the legendary 500. Another star, the Opel Astra, which also celebrates its 30th anniversary at the time. that its new generation is expected in the coming months. A launch which should then undoubtedly be the occasion to celebrate with great pomp the anniversary of the compact sedan. Finally, in addition to the famous Volkswagen Golfs and other Honda Civics, note that 2021 will also be the anniversary year of the adorable Nissan Figaro, this small car with a deliciously retro look produced in more than 20,000 copies.
Vintage car, what does that change?
If the status of collector’s car is adopted by many cars today, many still do not know what it really represents. Because contrary to what some might think, owning a car over 30 years old does not make it instantly eligible, quite the contrary. Because to be able to benefit from the advantages related to this category, the vehicle in question must imperatively not be any more in production. The car you want to collect must also have all the original characteristics, and therefore must not have been the subject of transformations, both in terms of bodywork and mechanics. If your car meets all these criteria, then it is possible to change its gray card, which is by no means obligatory but which is on the other hand irreversible. Note that when your car is in collection, it will lose the status of used vehicle, and will then become a “heritage object”.
Concretely, this one is then no longer constrained to respect the restricted traffic zones in the big cities, and is then subjected to the technical control only once every five years, instead of two years. In addition, a vintage car cannot be immobilized in the event of an accident and may be fitted with black number plates. However, it cannot then be used for professional use.
