BMW takes advantage of the restyling of its X3 and X4 to unveil the M Competition versions in stride, with a more aggressive style.
Generally, when a new model makes its appearance in the range, it is necessary to wait a certain time before seeing its sporting version arrive, which then arrives several months or even several years later sometimes. This was particularly the case of the BMW X3 and X4 M, revealed well after the standard versions, since it was only at the beginning of 2019 that they were shown to the general public. But this time around, things are slightly different. Indeed, the Munich-based brand has decided to lift the veil on the restyled versions of the X3 and X4, as well as on the sporting versions. M Competition. A change in strategy which undoubtedly allows the brand to save time by simultaneously unveiling all the versions, while these M’s should also take their first steps in front of the general public on the occasion of the Munich fair, which will take place from September 7 to 12, in place of the Frankfurt Motor Show. Only two years after their launch, the two sporting versions are therefore offered a little facelift which is a pleasure to see.
Unsurprisingly, these new X3 and X4 M Competition inherit the changes made on the standard versions, with the revised grille, made up of two beans now side by side. The optics have also been revised and refined, giving a slightly more aggressive character to the two SUVs. We will also note the front bumper also benefiting from a new stroke of the pencil, with new air intakes, contributing to give a rather nasty look to these M versions. At the rear, we will notice that the rear diffuser also has been retouched, incorporating no less than four round tailpipes. This is painted glossy black, as are the mirrors and the grille. New body colors are also appearing, including the very original yellow M Sao Paulo. On board, no big changes, but a few small adjustments, such as the new dark aluminum inserts. The driver will also be able to take a seat in the standard M sport seats and benefit from a 12.3-inch touch screen.
Still 510 horsepower
As you will have noticed, the aesthetic evolutions are present, but remain rather discreet, leaving no doubt a future generation to display more significant changes. And whether in terms of style or engine, it’s the same, since the recipe does not change one iota on these restyled versions of the X3 and X4 M Competition. The two sporty SUVs keep their six cylinders in line. 3.0-liter twin-turbo, which still displays a power of 510 horsepower for a torque of 650 Nm. An increase of 50 Nm compared to the previous version, which then makes it possible to slightly improve the 0 to 100 km / h, which gains three tenths of second. Concretely, only 3.8 seconds are now necessary, while the maximum speed is still electrically restricted to 250 km / h. The entire cavalry is sent to all four wheels via the xDrive all-wheel drive as well as the standard eight-speed Steptronic gearbox. Adaptive suspension comes standard, allowing the stiffness of the damping to be adapted to road conditions.
Good news for the impatient, we won’t have to wait long before being able to drive aboard these new BMW X3 and X4 M Competition, since they will arrive in dealerships in August. It will then be necessary to provide an entry ticket of 109,350 € for the X3 M and 111,650 € for the X4 M.
