Expected in the coming months, the future Kia Niro can already be glimpsed, revealing its deeply revised lines.
Launched in 2016, the Kia Niro is starting to age a little, despite its restyling in 2019 and the launch of a 100% electric version in 2018. Also offered in hybrid and plug-in hybrid, the SUV compact has already attracted many motorists around the world and on the French market. And for good reason, no less than 4,144 copies have been sold in our territory since the beginning of the year, which still places it far from the stars of the segment, but which remains however very honorable for an Asian model. Direct rival of Renault Kadjar, Nissan Qashqai and other Peugeot 3008s, the Korean does not count on resting on its achievements and is preparing to afford a new generation, which should then be officially revealed in the coming months. But in the meantime, the SUV is fine-tuning its settings, while it was seen during road tests by a spy photographer …
It is on the pretty roads of the Austrian Alps that this brand new generation was photographed, already showing its lines. Because if it had already been seen a few months earlier, the camouflage of this version is much less thick than before, without revealing the lines of this Niro. At first glance, it seems that the optics have been largely modified, as well as the grille, which then appears much wider. That’s about all that can be said about the front, as the very upright shaped taillights seem concept-inspired. Habaniro, unveiled in 2019. It is therefore quite possible that this study of very futuristic style served as a model for the conception of the design of the 2nd generation of the Kia Niro. On the other hand, no image was shown of the interior, which should also evolve in depth and modernize considerably. So all that remains is to show a little patience before being able to find out more about this new version, which should not be long in showing up.
Underside of Ioniq
For now, technical information on this future generation of the Kia Niro is still very scarce, and only a few noises from the corridors give us clues as to what will be installed under the hood. According to rumors, the family SUV should keep its E-GMP platform, developed in partnership with Hyundai and already fitted to the new Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 recently unveiled. Regarding the range of engines, on the other hand, it is radio silence, but everything suggests that the possibilities will always be as numerous, with hybrid, rechargeable hybrid and electric versions. As a reminder, the powers of the current range then range between 105 and 204 horsepower, offering a wide choice for customers according to their needs. But the answers to our questions should not delay too long, the rumors evoking a revelation by the end of the year, for a commercialization planned for next year.
