Two noise radars installed in Paris

15 de February de 2022
in Car

Two new noise radars will be tested in Paris over the next few months, before the first verbalizations.

For several months, the hunt for noise pollution intensifies on the roads. And for good reason, in addition to the speed cameras which are multiplying everywhere, new control devices have pushed to the edge of the tracks. These are anti-noise radars, designed to verbalize motorists with vehicles that are too noisy. Aiming in particular at motorcycles unbridled as well as tuning enthusiasts modifying their exhaust system, this system is already in the test phase in several municipalities, while eight radars have already been installed on the territory. Indeed, no less than seven communities are taking part in this vast experiment, which should therefore continue over the next few years.

Two new devices

After Rueil-Malmaison, Saint Forget and Saint-Lambert or even Villeneuve-le-Roi or Bron, it’s the turn of Paris to accommodate two new noise radars. The first was indeed inaugurated on Monday rue d’Avron (20th), while a second was installed yesterday rue Cardinet (17th). For the time being, these are still in the test phase for at least three months and will therefore not verbalize any offenders. This experiment should continue until 2024, the time that all the radars are operational. They should eventually verbalize vehicles emitting more than 90 decibels according to our colleagues from the Figaro.

According to David Belliard, EELV deputy at the Paris town hall in charge of roads, these radars do indeed meet an expectation on the part of Parisians. For his part, Dan Lert, EELV deputy in charge of ecological transition underlines that “ road noise represents a loss of eight months of life expectancy in good health for all Parisians, an unbridled motorbike circulating at night can wake up to 10,000 Parisians ».
