If there’s one thing you don’t have control over when buying a TV, it’s where you plan to place it, usually in your living room. It is therefore the size of this living room that will naturally apply a first filter in your criteria: the size of the screen.
Indeed, to make the most of a television, there is a certain setback distance to be taken into account between the device and your sofa. This decline varies depending on the definition offered by the screen. And the math is pretty straightforward. There are three types of definitions:
- HD television: for a 1366 x 768 image pixels.
- Full HD television: for an image in 1920 x 1080 pixels.
- Television Ultra HD : for an image in 3840 x 2160 pixels
For each of these definitions, the recommended distance between the TV and the sofa is calculated using a multiplier of the diagonal of the screen. If there is no precise figure, we can generally summarize the process in this way.
- HD television: screen diagonal x 4
- Full HD television: screen diagonal x 2.5
- Ultra HD television: screen diagonal x 1.5
Note that the diagonal of the screen is generally expressed in inches. It will be necessary to convert to centimeters. Let us take as an example a Full HD television of 40 inches (40 “) in metric, this gives a diagonal of 101.6 cm. To calculate the backward distance we therefore apply the multiplier 2.5. Between the television and the sofa, it will therefore take about 254 cm or 2.54 m (well, we are not at the ready!).
Flat or curved screen

While the standard screen LED has a backlight, in an OLED screen, each pixel emits its own light when it is crossed by a Electric power. This results in much more contrasting images.
