It was on board a pre-exploitation prototype that we discovered the dynamic capabilities of the station wagon variant of the new 308.
As we get behind the wheel, the new 308 SW has yet to finalize its development. Since then, our half-hour taxiing is carried out aboard a camouflaged prototype, which does not prevent us from detecting its potential. As often with Peugeot, the chassis of this station wagon variant seems to be very well made. In other words, the front axle fits precisely in the curve, allowing us to benefit from a good feedback of information in the direction, while the rear axle follows like on rails. At the level of the stern, we feel the slight overweight inherent in this break silhouette and it is all the more marked on the 225 hp plug-in hybrid version which we also have the opportunity to teach, again as a prototype. Moreover, this is an observation that we were able to draw up during our test at the beginning of last year of the big sister, the 508 SW PHEV. Overweight is felt at medium speed, because when you have the leisure to increase the pace, the chassis qualities make it almost imperceptible.

Pre-exploitation prototype
There is no need to dwell on the soundproofing which appears very heterogeneous. On this prototype, the acoustic component is logically not yet finalized. Similarly, not all driving aids are activated yet. However, we have access to most of these ADAS, including emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, blind spot warning … As on the sedan, we find the compact steering wheel, the combined instrumentation in height. His 3d display can be turned off and back to 2D for those who are not fans of 3D in motion. In addition, on board this prototype, we logically see that the adjustments are not finalized, just as the plastics are not grained, while a small yellow label bearing the explicit mention “Inert Airbag” is taped to the steering wheel. .
Gasoline and plug-in hybrid test
The two versions that we have the opportunity to run during this pre-run embody the top of the range, in gasoline and plug-in hybrid. On the one hand, the 3-cylinder 1.2 PureTech developing 130 horses, and on the other, the strong PHEV offer of 225 equines. In both cases, we find the EAT8 automatic transmission, whose gear changes are smooth and responsive. With the GT finish, the seat comfort is good, although the damping is quite firm, knowing that our vehicle is equipped with rims of 18 inch. In any case, the road feel looks promising. At the end of our short journey, the average consumption of this petrol version of 130 hp is 7.2 liters.
