Bugatti soon to be bought by Rimac?

The brand specializing in electric supercars is in negotiations to buy Bugatti according to new rumors.

It’s a hallway noise that has been echoing for quite some time, while the first echoes date back to September 2020. At that time, the German magazine Manager Magazin affirmed that Rimac and Bugatti would be negotiating for a possible buyout and that an agreement could be announced a little later. Finally, it did not happen, and all this panic around a possible purchase of the Molsheim brand by the one from Croatia finally subsided immediately. But that’s why the rumor was forgotten, when it has just resurfaced. And this is not without reason, since last March, the boss and founder of Rimac Automobili, Mate Rimac, confirmed that he was in full negotiations with Porsche, as part of a Bugatti buyout procedure in the coming months. . This time, a little more information had been revealed, starting with the amount of the operation, which would then be between 157 and 181 million dollars.

But if this rumor resurfaces today, it is because the Croatian firm, founded in 2009, has just affirmed that it is ready to take the next step in this operation, while two major movements would be scheduled next. Enough to once again attract the attention of specialists and the curious, while all eyes are now on Bugatti and the Volkswagen group. Because we remember, the latter would like to get rid of certain brands. Would the Alsatian firm be part of it? It’s entirely possible. However, if it were bought by Rimac, it would not be completely excluded from the German group, while Porsche has a strong stake in the capital of the Croatian brand. Moreover, Mate Rimac had very recently announced that “thePorsche’s stake will increase but will not approach 50%, and Rimac will remain independent “. For now, the Stuttgart brand owns 24% of the company.

A range under construction

As a reminder, Rimac Automobili was founded in 2009 by Mate Rimac, who started out by converting his BMW 3 Series type E30 into electric. After a few years of development, the Croatian firm headquartered in Zagreb begins to gain momentum and even attracts the attention of Porsche, which decided to enter its capital and take a 10% stake in 2018. In May 2019, it was Kia / Hyundai’s turn to invest 80 million euros and forge a partnership with the brand, involving, among other things, the creation of a high-performance hydrogen model. Finally, in March 2021, Porsche returns to the charge by increasing its stake to 24% by injecting an additional 70 million euros.

For now, Rimac has unveiled three concepts, the Concept One, Concept S and C_Two Concept, the production version of which is the all-new Nevera unveiled recently. This is then equipped with four electric motors, then developing a total power of 1,914 horsepower for a maximum torque of 2,360 Nm. For its part, its 120 kWh battery allows it to cover 650 kilometers in a single charge.
