What are the main causes of disputes among French people in the car?

We know that the car is the perfect place to disputes par excellence, and all pretexts are good for a good spat. Whether it’s the direction to take, complaints about driving too abrupt or too dangerous or general annoyance, travel and other departures on vacation can sometimes quickly turn into a nightmare. Not to mention the conflicts related to the choice of music or the restaurant where to stop for lunch. In short, difficult to take the road serenely, as underlined by a survey conducted by Nissan, which wanted to know a little more about the main causes of disputes in the car. The brand therefore surveyed no less than 2,000 motorists throughout Europe, in order to better understand the issues of driving tension, but also to promote the on-board technologies of its Juke, launched in 2019. And no surprises, the drivers and their passengers have many reasons to argue, although some return more than others.

At the top of the ranking of the causes of spat, it is the use of the telephone that predominates, for 45% of those surveyed, followed by dangerous overtaking (39%) and braking at the last minute (35%). Then come unnecessarily sudden braking (33%) and when the driver sticks too much to the vehicle in front (32%). Overall, passengers don’t really like to be shaken up or feel unsafe, which is obviously completely understandable. In addition, according to the manufacturer, 46% of European drivers say that following a vehicle too closely is one of the most irritating driving habits. The brand took the opportunity to recall the elementary rule but too often neglected two to two seconds apart, at least, with the previous car. In addition, 56% of passengers say they feel particularly uncomfortable when the driver overtakes deemed dangerous, whether due to lack of visibility or a bad calculation, forcing them to accelerate or to fall back too early. , then increasing the risk of accident.

Breaks and real organization

Still according to the Nissan survey, nearly one in five European drivers admit to having already continued to drive even when exhausted. A dangerous practice, which can induce risky behavior, while increasing the stress of the person behind the wheel, as well as of his passengers. Yet a short walk, a coffee or a nap, or even all three if you have the time, will allow you to efficiently recharge your batteries and leave more serenely and in better shape. As a reminder, it is advisable to take a break every two hours during your journeys, in order to considerably reduce the risk of drowsiness and accidents. In addition, and in order to guarantee a good atmosphere on board throughout the trip, you can also organize yourself in advance, in particular by preparing some playlists. A detail ultimately not so anecdotal when we know that 55% of Europeans believe that the music is ” the most important ingredient for a pleasant road trip “. Letting everyone choose their favorite song in turn and playing a DJ would therefore be one of the keys to a successful journey. Ultimately, it’s not that complicated!
