A few months after the American version, the Honda Civic intended for Europe is finally revealed, without saying too much for the moment.
Mind you, it was last April. At that time, Honda lifted the veil on the first official images of the new generation of its Civic, several months after the presentation of the eponymous concept. Quite close to the latter, the American compact incorporating the vast majority of its stylistic elements, while calming down somewhat, as is often the case. At that time, technical information was almost non-existent, while the brand had simply announced that this eleventh generation will perpetuate the legacy of the previous ones, since its launch in 1972. Information that then remained rather wave. But now we are finally starting to know a little more about this newcomer, while Honda has just lifted the veil on the version which will be intended for the European market. Of course, it will take a little more patience before really knowing everything, but already, the firm wanted to provide us with some interesting information …
So far, only three photos have been released by Honda, which no doubt wants to wait a bit before showing us all. A revelation in the form of a leasing campaign therefore for this new generation, which remains unsurprisingly very close to the American version unveiled a little earlier. It will therefore be necessary to play the game of seven differences to detect the changes, which therefore remain very minimal. These include the slightly redesigned grille, as well as the compact silhouette. After the trunk version unveiled in April, it is indeed the turn of the hatchback version to show itself, while it is this one that should be sold with us, the Europeans being less fond of notchback sedans. Result, the window is inclined and the roof is elusive, enough to give a certain dynamism to the silhouette, which then contrasts with the sobriety of the front and rear. If no photo of the interior of the five-door version was shown, the presentation should be identical to the American four-door. The dashboard while in length is then surmounted by a touch screen of 7 to 9 inches, associated with a digital handset of 10.2 inches on the most high-end versions.
Only in hybrid
If we start to have a lot of information on this eleventh generation of the compact star, Honda does not want to be too talkative about its technical characteristics. However, we know that it will only be sold with an e: HEV hybrid engine. If nothing has yet been confirmed, the brand’s bestseller should then be powered by the combination of two electric motors and a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle thermal block, as on the new Honda HR-V . This could then be associated with a CVT box, while its total power should be around 131 horsepower, as on the hybrid SUV. For its part, the Type R version styling the range should undoubtedly take up this traction chain, while its power is not yet known for the moment. As a reminder, the current generation has a 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC developing some 320 horsepower for a maximum torque of 400 Nm.
Available from next year in Europe, the new Honda Civic has not yet announced its prices, which should undoubtedly be a little more expensive than the 25,500 € currently requested.
