Bonus-malus: the new grid from July 1, 2021

Discover the new amounts of the ecological bonus, revised downwards on July 1 for eligible electric and hybrid cars.

The switch from the first to the second half of 2021 is synonymous with several changes within the ecological bonus-penalty grid. As expected, the new amounts coming into force in this Thursday 1is July concern the slope of the bonus. Find below the summary of the modifications made to the bonus grid.

The new bonus amounts for electric cars

The revaluation of the maximum bonus, from 6,000 to 7,000 euros, was finalized at the beginning of June 2020. It was one of the main government measures listed in the automobile recovery plan, presented a few days earlier, on May 26. Initially, this revaluation was to end at the end of last year, but the persistence of the health crisis had led to its extension for another six months. This highest bonus concerns 100% electric cars with a price lower than 45,000 euros, within the limit of 27% of the purchase price. At 1is July, it goes down from 7000 to 6000 euros, thus returning to its initial level at the start of 2020. As a result, reaching the limit of 27% only concerns the Dacia Spring, the Renault Twingo Electric and the Seat Mii Electric. For models displayed between 45,000 and 60,000 euros, the aid is also reduced by 1,000 euros, from from 3000 to 2000 euros. But in this case, it should be noted that this is not a return to square one since this bonus was not revalued last year. Finally, as a reminder, apart from light commercial vehicles and vehicles running on hydrogen, also credited with an amount reduced from 3000 to 2000 euros, no bonus applies for electric models whose price exceeds 60,000 euros. For a vehicle ofoccasion, the bonus is maintained at 1000 euros.

  • EV of less than € 45,000 (20 g / km CO2 max): bonus of € 6,000 on July 1st (instead of € 7,000), limit 27% purchase price incl.
  • VE from 45,000 to 60,000 € (20 g / km CO2 max): € 2,000 bonus on July 1st (instead of € 3,000)
  • EV over € 60,000: no bonus, except light utility or hydrogen, 2000 € (instead of 3000 €)

Bonus also reduced for plug-in hybrids

In the same way as the 100% electric component, that of the rechargeable hybrid had benefited from government measures included in the automobile recovery plan, under conditions of price level and autonomy. Thus, since June 2020, certain hybrid vehicles had found a financial boost in France, to the tune of 2,000 euros. Again, the aid was due to end last December, but it had been extended by a further six months, thus covering a period of 13 months. And as for the two tranches of the electric bonus, its amount must be reduced by 1000 euros to 1is July. Therefore, on that date, the bonus relating to the hybrid will drop by half, from 2000 to 1000 euros. As a reminder, vehicles are eligible if they meet all of the following criteria: be rechargeable, with a purchase price less than or equal to 50,000 euros, an all-electric range greater than 50 km (WLTP) and a CO2 rate. between 21 and 50 g / km.

  • Eligible ORVs (€ 50,000 max, 21 to 50 g / km CO2, more than 50 km of range): bonus of 1000 € on July 1st (instead of 2000 €)

The 2021 penalty grid

While the date of 1is July is the scene of several changes in the bonus scale, nothing changes for the penalty. As always, the hardening of the grid had been carried out 1is last january and the next changes will take place in six months. Note that from 2022, the CO2 penalty will be capped at 50% of the vehicle price including VAT. The official website of the public service also recalls that the payment of the penalty is linked to the date of registration, and not to the date of order or purchase. Since 1is January 2021, the penalty in France starts with an amount of 50 euros at 133 g / km of CO2 for peak at 30,000 euros for an emission level equal to or greater than 219 g/km.
