Three long years that fans have been waiting for news of the next installment in the saga Elder Scrolls. In an interview, the studio’s executive producer reveals that the game, still in the design stage, will be based on a brand new engine.

With more than 30 million copies, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released in 2011 is one of video games the most sold in the world. Its highly anticipated sequel, The Elder Scrolls VI, was announced three years ago, at E3 in 2018. In an exclusive interview with Todd Howard, executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, The Telegraph was able to get more details on the next installment in the series.

Despite impatience fans, the new episode is not going to be released soon. For now, the studio is focused on its space role-playing game. Starfield, whose release, scheduled for November 2022, has been announced during E3 last month. The Elder Scrolls VI, according to Todd Howard, is still in the design stage. However, this is not bad news in itself, as it will benefit from all the work done on Starfield.

A brand new game engine

The developers will then have to integrate into the Creation Engine 2 elements specific to The Elder Scrolls VI. This logically means that the game won’t release until 2023 at best. However, Bethesda will be able to analyze the returns on Starfield and tweak the game engine before the release of the next one Elder Scrolls. If the result lives up to expectations, the new episode will have the potential to dethrone Skyrim, even if the wait is very long…
