After a baptism of theair last november, the AirCar flying car has just made another convincing demonstration by making a 35-minute flight between Nitra International Airport and Bratislava International Airport in Slovakia. A crucial step for the viability of the project supported for more than 30 years by its inventor Stefan Klein. The third prototype of theAirCar who carried out this test flight flew at an altitude of 2,500 meters at 170 km / h. The flying car is powered by a 160 HP BMW engine but Klein Vision plans to use an even more powerful engine (300 HP) for the preproduction version.
The kinematics of metamorphosis of the AirCar is quite complex: the spoiler integrated into the bodywork begins by moving backwards to allow the wings stored in a position parallel to the cockpit to straighten vertically before tilting on either side. The car volante takes off and lands on a runway. Klein Vision assures that the AirCar will be homologated in the category M1 to travel on the road and will obtain the certification CS-23 from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). In addition to a car license, its driver must have a pilot’s license. The manufacturer is considering several variations so flying car : two-seater, four-seater, twin-engine and amphibious. Klein Vision has not yet communicated on the price and release date of the AirCar.
