The first photos of the new Volkswagen Golf R station wagon are already leaking on the net. The opportunity to discover her look.
It is not because the summer holidays are approaching that Volkswagen is resting, on the contrary. Indeed, the German brand is still working on expanding the range of its Golf, the standard version of which was launched at the beginning of last year. And since then, we can say that the catalog has grown quite a bit, between the GTI, GTE and GTD versions, not to mention the SW variant. Later, it was the turn of the R version, eagerly awaited by fans of the brand to see the light of day, then increasing its power, while offering a new Drift mode that had caused much ink to flow. A few months later, the firm is now preparing to unveil the break variant, the first images of which come from leaks on the net, via the forum Worldscoop. The opportunity to learn a little more about this version dedicated to parents in a hurry, which should soon be officially revealed to the general public.
And this time, no prototypes or camouflage, since this is what looks like official images that have been published on the net. And these then very clearly show the lines of the car, which unsurprisingly remain very close to the standard version, unveiled in November 2020. The front face remains in effect unchanged, with its very thin optics, queens between them by a black band illuminated with the lights. The shield has not changed one iota either, and it is therefore at the rear that it will be necessary to look to see the main evolutions. The overhang has in fact been lengthened, to allow the trunk to gain in volume. The inclined bezel contributes to giving a certain dynamism to the car, which retains a rather attractive line. The interior remains identical to the sedan, with its sports seats and digital handset, while the trunk volume should be significantly higher.
Data sheet unchanged
For now, no official information has been released by Volkswagen about its new Golf R SW. But there shouldn’t be any big surprises, since this variation should quite logically take the four-cylinder 2.0-liter TSI from the GTI and the standard R, which then develops the trifle of 320 horsepower on the latter. A power which should therefore remain the same, while the maximum torque is established at 420 Nm. All this cavalry is then sent to the four wheels, via an all-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG gearbox. While the sedan achieves the 0 to 100 km / h in 4.7 seconds, the station wagon should not be far, although it will have to wait for confirmation from Volkswagen. It also remains to be seen whether the Drift mode offered on the standard version is renewed, which would be quite logical after all. As is the presence of the standard DCC adaptive chassis, as well as the Special mode, offering settings optimized for driving on the Nürburgring.
All that remains now is to know the launch date as well as the prices of this new Volkswagen Golf R SW, which should be a little more expensive than the 50,260 € requested for the sedan.
