New BMW X1 2022: petrol, diesel, hybrid and 100% electric

The BMW X1 will review its copy within 12 months to increase its level of electrification. What do we already know about the competitor of the Audi Q3 and Mercedes GLA?

New BMW X1 2022 – A third generation of BMW X1, expected next year, will see its range of engines expand. In addition to the petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid units, already available on the current one, an electric motor will appear to enrich the iX family, with two zero-emission SUVs.

Multi-energy

Despite the introduction of this new 100% electric powertrain, The new BMW X1 will not start from scratch, as evidenced by the rolling prototypes recently immortalized by our scoop hunters. The Munich-based firm does not yet have a modular 100% electric platform, it will be content to modernize that of the current X1, named UKL, and soon renamed FAAR. A multi-energy base copied from the strategies of the Stellantis group and Mercedes, with a view to reducing development costs.

Gentle evolution

Also, in terms of style, the future BMW X1 will not change its silhouette excessively. It will focus especially on modernizing its facies and its stern, while its electric variant will highlight styling details ushered in by the recent iX, iX3 and i4. Inside, the new compact SUV could be inspired by the Series 1 and Series 2 dashboard to update.

Modest powers

Under the hood, 3 and 4-cylinder blocks should convert to a rechargeable hybridization in order to lower the levels of CO2 emissions. Anyway, this third X1 of the name will not play the race for power, to offer onlyaround 220 hp in top-of-the-range plug-in hybrid. It is the 100% electric variant which could improve this characteristic, without however joining the 286 hp of the big brother iX3, for the sake of respecting the house hierarchy.

New BMW X1 price

Launched in the summer of 2021, the new BMW X1 will start its prices beyond the € 35,000 mark, when the electric iX1 will claim less than € 45,000 if it intends to remain competitive with the Audi Q4 e-tron and Mercedes EQA. Subsequently, its derivative X2, sportier looking, should take back most of its characteristics and add more punchy engines.
