The World Rally Championship reveals the identity of 9 of the 13 rounds on the program for next season, without Croatia, Finland or Great Britain.
Provisional, the 2022 calendar of the WRC is in several ways. On the one hand, only 9 rallies have been announced out of the 13 expected on the menu for the next World Rally Championship exercise. On the other hand, they are only two to inherit from specific dates. The lucky ones are logically the first two meetings of the season, Monte-Carlo and Sweden.
As tradition dictates, the legendary Monegasque event to the generally changing conditions of adhesion will initiate hostilities to the end of january. A month later, we set sail for Sweden, which had exceptionally given up in 2021, giving way to the unprecedented Arctic Rally in northern Finland. In search of winter conditions conducive to snow formation, the Swedish round changes location by migrating north.
The seven other events registered in 2022 are already on the calendar for the current season. It is five gravel rallies (Portugal, Sardinia, Safari Kenya, Estonia, Greece) and two on asphalt (Spain, Japan). On the other hand, some emblematic destinations are missing for the time being, in particular the rally of Finland And the one of Britain. In case of return, the British meeting could be disputed in Scotland, taking over from Wales.
Also in the running for one of the remaining four places, the Rally Croatia raced on asphalt can assert its first successful edition in early spring. Without forgetting the possible candidacy of Ypres in Belgium, whose WRC debut is set to take place in mid-August. With the exception of the African stage provided by the Safari in Kenya, the provisional WRC calendar is exclusively focused on europe. In its final version, the 2022 season of the world rally championship could include an event in Oceania (New Zealand, Australia) or America (Mexico, Argentina), subject to the evolution of the health crisis.
This provisional schedule published by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) will a priori be completed at the next World Motor Sport Council, scheduled for October 15, 2021.
