After the pre-production model unveiled last November, BMW has officially launched its new electric scooter CE 04. Its very elongated design, with a low seat and elements of fairing independent, is reminiscent of the machines that we see in some manga. We find the side trunk system to store the helmet and a very inclined front unit which brings the sporty touch.
The driver has in front of him a large 10.2-inch screen with assisted navigation. It also has a charging compartment in USB-C for the smartphone. BMW has also planned a line of clothing, helmets and even shoes coordinated with the colors you scooter.
If the design of the BMW CE 04 was already familiar to us, we knew nothing about its engine. The German brand has chosen to address a large audience by offering two versions. The first, which has a nominal power of 11 kW or 15 hp (23 kW peak or 31 hp), is accessible with a 125 (A1) license. The second saw its nominal power climb to 15 kW (20 hp) and its peak power to 31 kW (42 hp). The speed maximum of both versions is 120 km / h. The BMW CE 04 uses a 60.6 Ah (8.9 kWh) battery which provides 130 km of range for the most powerful model and 100 km for the A1 model.
The BMW CE 04 cheaper than the BMW C-Evolution
It takes 4h20mn for a full recharge in the standard 2.3 kW configuration. BMW offers as an option (€ 1,240) a fast charging system up to 6.9 kW which reduces the time to 1h40mn for a full charge and 45mn to go from 20 to 80%.
Good news on the price side, BMW left on a lower basis than the previous model. The BMW CE 04 starts at € 12,150 for both versions (BMW C-Evolution started at over € 15,000) and there is also a “Pro” version from € 13,220 with alarm, center stand, adaptive lighting, heated grips and pressure indicator pneumatic. Pre-orders for the BMW CE 04 are already open but deliveries will not begin until early 2022.
BMW strikes a blow with its Definition CE 04 electric scooter
Article by Marc Zaffagni, the 11/15/2020
The German brand has just unveiled an almost production version of a new electric scooter. Its futuristic design is almost exactly the same as the Concept Link presented in 2017.
BMW has been present since 2013 in the electric scooters with the C Evolution. The manufacturer is preparing its succession with the BMW Definition CE 04, a model close to the series surprisingly faithful to the Concept Link unveiled in 2017. Very elongated, with a low seat making it easier to step over, the Definition CE 04 sports a style futuristic and minimalist by playing on elements of fairing independent of each other and a very inclined front unit.
The battery, about which BMW does not give any specification, is integrated flat in order to lower the center of gravity and to provide a storage compartment for the helmet accessible laterally. Lighting integration Led is taken from the Concept Link, especially at the rear where it is integrated into the side panel. The pilot has in front of him a large 10.2-inch screen, the largest ever integrated on a scooter, according to BMW.
A matching parka with integrated light signaling
The scooter automatically connects to its owner’s smartphone and BMW has taken the concept of connectivity even further with full driver equipment. There is a helmet coordinated with the colors of the scooter, a parka, pants and shoes. The parka incorporates a system of light bands of signaling whose color can be changed thanks to controls integrated in the sleeve and one of its pockets can charge a smartphone by induction.
For the time being, BMW does not say what type of electric motor and autonomy delivers this Definition CE 04. The German brand does not confirm either that it will be marketed as is in the near future. But it would be surprising if such an advanced concept remained placard.
