With over 80,500 units sold worldwide last year, the Ford Mustang remains the best-selling and most popular sports model. Especially in the United States.
The Ford Mustang has been traveling the roads of the world for almost sixty years, becoming over the decades a true icon, synonymous with the American dream, route 66 and escape. After all, who has never dreamed of crossing the United States back and forth behind the wheel of the pony-car, hair in the wind and with the sound of the V8 as accompanying music? It is to say if the sportswoman is anchored in the collective imagination, having made dream of the whole generations of impassioned automobile and long-distance travel. Few of the cars have such a high sympathy capital, they can undoubtedly be counted on the fingers of one hand. No wonder then that the Ford Mustang continues to seduce and still meet as much success with customers around the world, despite the crisis and the increasingly stringent environmental standards against combustion cars. Because if some manufacturers and certain models in particular have suffered a lot in recent months, the Mustang continues its path.
And for good reason, no less than 80,577 copies of the pony-car were sold last year, making once again the best-selling sports car around the world. An almost indecent success for this Mustang, whose market share rose further, from 14.8% in 2019 to 15.1% in 2020. However, and if the car is still very popular with customers, its sales have nevertheless fallen quite a bit compared to two years ago, since in 2019, no less than 102,090 units had been sold, while in 2018, more than 113,000 units had been registered. Of course, you will not be surprised to learn that the sports car is most successful in the United States, with more than 61,000 copies sold, despite a 15.7% drop in sales. Customers are most fond of it in Texas, followed by California and Florida.
Relative success in France
If the Ford Mustang is therefore still attractive, it is increasingly threatened by environmental standards, while her age is starting to make her a little less attractive to customers. No need to worry though, since she should retain her title of best-selling sportswoman in the world for this year, even though sales are down 4.4% compared to last year. But it is especially in Europe that the situation is worrying for the pony-car, weighed down by increasingly restrictive standards. In France, only four copies have been sold since the beginning of the year, customers then being logically discouraged by the penalty now increased to € 30,000. As a reminder, only the version equipped with 5.0 liter V8 is now available on our market, declined in coupe and convertible and available with a manual or automatic transmission. A Mach 1 version is also marketed, distinguished by specific elements such as an active escapement as well as an even more expressive style.
