The Porsche 911 Safari is about to rise from its ashes. What do we already know about this raised coupe, which is more adept at muddy terrain than at the circuit?
New Porsche 911 Safari 2022 – A 911 in SUV gear? Not so fast! It is onlya fair return things if the most media coupe in the automotive world is about to raise its plate. More than 40 years after having shone in rally-raid, the type 992 hears revive the myth of the Porsche 911 Safari.
A raised 911
At the turn of the 2020 decade, Porsche has also been grilled politeness by independent preparers eager to deliver their vision of a 911 cut out for adventure. In turn, we saw the craftsman CALL develop a 911 Rodeo, Gemballa announce a hypothetical 911 Avalanche when, more recently, Singer presented a modernized version of Safari through the impressive ACS.
Look discret
Porsche, for its part, will play it more modest, based on the current 911 type 992. As shown in the photos immortalizing one of the prototypes of this future 911 Safari, the coupe is content to increase its ground clearance by a few millimeters, to put on tires with increased sidewalls, while small wing extensions in raw plastic protect the wheel arches. We also note that the diffuser housed between the two tailpipes takes the appearance of a shoe to reinforce the adventurous aspect of the sport.
4 × 4 required
It is still too early to know which engine will power this 911 capable of climbing trees, but it is certain that all-wheel drive will be required. The Safari could be satisfied with the entry level of 385 hp driving the Carrera 4, or prefer the 450 hp of the 4S. In any case, we can say that it will turn its back on the mechanics of the Turbo and Turbo S, insofar as none of the prototypes crossed by our scoop hunters displayed air intake at the rear fenders.
Price Porsche 911 Safari
Probably unveiled before the end of this year, the new Porsche 911 Safari could charge dearly for the price of its exclusivity by starting its prices around € 150,000. It will start its marketing during 2022.
