After more than a year of interruption, the German mini electric city car, one of the most affordable on the market, is again available for order.
The Volkswagen e-up! and the Porsche 911 GT3 have a priori nothing in common. Apart from the fact that in both cases, it is not always enough to raise an amount equivalent to their price to be able to afford them.
The Wolfsburg firm did not actually take more new orders from his e-up! since the end of 2020. The official reason: delivery times which had then reached up to 16 months due to “absolute” commercial success (sic). The production of the year 2021 was thus dedicated only to catching up with this delay.
Even if it is possible to doubt the sincerity of the speech, as well as the ability of the German group to finally achieve its CO2 emissions objectives without its mini city car despite the launch of the ID range, the return to the catalog of such a model in this year 2022 is rather good news.
The second best-selling electric car in Germany in 2021, behind a certain Tesla Model 3, remains indeed one of the most affordable battery-powered cars on the market (with all the quotes that adjective deserves).
Admittedly, without being able to compete with a Dacia Spring “made in China” available from €17,390, the small Volkswagen built in Slovakia is displayed in France at a single price of 24,690 € before deduction of the €6,000 bonus.
For this price, this urban 5-door and 4-seater less than 3.60 m long, promises to travel up to 258 km on a single charge according to the WLTP cycle thanks to the 32.2 kWh (net capacity) of its battery.
Let’s hope, why not, that this return is accompanied by that of the cousins Seat Mii Electric and Skoda Citigo and iV, often even better placed from a price point of view of a few hundred euros.
