Expected next year, the next generation of the Mercedes SL begins to show itself slowly through a few images.
Now we start to know a little more about the next generation of the Mercedes SL. Indeed, the firm has already started its teasing campaign, unveiling just a few weeks ago the interior of the convertible, very clearly modernized and appropriating the aesthetic codes of the latest models. The driver will then be able to take advantage of a large 11.9-inch touch screen in portrait format, the inclination of which can be adjusted to avoid reflections when the top is open. This is then associated with a 12.3-inch digital handset, all of which is integrated into a cabin that will not disorient the regulars of the brand. But if the driving position is henceforth well known, this is far from being the case from the outside, which still remains very secret, pending the revelation of the car which should intervene by the end of the year. Fortunately, our colleagues from Automedia were able to photograph some prototypes in the testing phase, to our great pleasure.
If it is still difficult to detect all the details, due to the camouflage that still remains on some parts, we are however starting to have a good idea of the style of the convertible. And the least we can say is that this one should adopt a rather aggressive style, strongly influenced by AMG. Offering itself a real facelift compared to the previous generation, launched in 2012 and restyled in 2016, this new Mercedes SL should adopt a panemericana grille inspired by the Mercedes-AMG GT. Logically, the shield will also be revised, as well as the lights, all for the benefit of dynamism. At the rear, we note the presence of four tailpipes, integrated into a diffuser that seems rather aggressive. In addition, the removable roof has been replaced here by a canvas hood, which is lighter and undoubtedly more practical. New optics also appear to be on the program, then approaching what is already offered on the other models in the range.
A well-filled range
For now, Mercedes has not given any details on the technical sheet of its future SL, but already, rumors are rife. The range will then begin with the SL 43 version, which should then take over the 2.0-liter four-cylinder from the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S and which should exceed 400 horsepower. The most efficient versions should for their part carry a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, associated with an electric motor. This variation, called the 73rd, will then develop no less than 800 electrified horsepower and share its engine with the AMG GT 73rd. For now, that’s about all we know about the German convertible, which should be revealed in the coming months, for marketing early next year. The prices should then be detailed at this time, but it should undoubtedly still exceed the € 100,000 mark, like the previous version.
