Fuel: the price of a barrel is still rising

With the crisis in Ukraine, the price per barrel rose again, approaching $100. An increase which should affect the liter of fuel.

Will we ever return to acceptable levels? It seems compromised. Indeed, while fuel prices have been climbing steadily for several months now, the hope of seeing prices come down is dwindling more and more. Forgotten the almost miraculous period of the liter of diesel at €1.17 and unleaded at €1.22! Because according to the latest scores, it is now necessary to count 1.70 € per liter for the first and more than 1.75 € for the second. An increase that we owe to taxes, which represent more than 60% of the price of fuel, but not only. And for good reason, the barrel of oil has also risen sharply in recent months.

A tense situation

And it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Indeed, and as some specialists predicted, the price of oil has risen again in recent days, reaching $99. An increase that we owe in large part to the crisis in Ukraine, which is deteriorating day by day. But that’s not all, because oil-exporting countries have also agreed not to increase extractions too much, thus increasing the difference between supply and demand.

Unsurprisingly, this surge in the price of barrel of Brent will be felt at the pump in the coming weeks, when the fuel is therefore expected to increase further. Will it ever slow down? We hope so, because for the time being, the situation is becoming more and more difficult, while some stations are displaying a liter of unleaded at more than €2.30.
