Contemporary Amperex Technology, better known by the abbreviation Catlus, has just announced the marketing in 2023 of a battery using salt instead of lithium which could be used for electric transport.
Its energy density can go up to 160 Wh / kg and it recharges to 80% in 15 minutes. Catlus states that it can retain 90% of its capacity at -20 ° C. However, the announced density is much lower than that of batteries lithium-ion (285 Wh / kg), which will limit the use of these batteries sodium-ion energy efficient electric means of transport. But the Chinese giant says it is targeting a density of 200Wh / kg for the next generation of drums sodium-ion.
CATL also presented a mixed battery that combines lithium-ion and sodium-ion cells, all controlled by an algorithm to unify performance. This system hybrid could serve as a storage solution forenergy. let’s remember that Catlus is one of the suppliers of Tesla and other major manufacturers including BMW, Honda, PSA, Toyota and Volkswagen.
