Today many printers have a scanner. A feature that allows you to quickly scan and print a tax sheet or an official document, for example. But how do you scan from a printer? This is what we will see in this article.

A majority of today’s printers now have a scanner. A scanner that will allow you to scan your documents in seconds, and often remotely from your smartphone. However, a few steps will be necessary to achieve this.

Connect your printer to your PC

This is the essential step. Whether you have a connected printer locally (Wi-Fi) or a printer via USB, you will still need to connect it. You must therefore first turn on your printer and then connect it either via Wi-Fi or via USB :

  • Wi-Fi: Connect your printer-scanner to the Wi-Fi network. Usually the procedure is simple. All you have to do is press the Wi-Fi button, the printer will then connect to it on its own. The indicator light will show the connection by a lit diode. Then click on start then type “Printer”, then select, on the left panel “Printer and Scanner”. Finally select “Add a printer”. Once done, you should see your scanner connected to Wi-Fi. Choose it. Your printer will be connected to your PC. Note that the smartphone procedure remains essentially the same, except that a application will be supplied to you with the printer.
  • USB: Connect the USB cable from your printer to the USB cable from your PC. Repeat the previous operation, namely: “Start”, type “Printer”, click “Printer and scanner”, then “add a printer”. Then choose your model. The connection will then be made.

Here you will have already done 80% of the way. The most tedious step is really the connection between the different devices.

Scan your document

This is the final step. To do this you must go to the part scanner and printer on Windows, and right click on your printer. Here you will see a menu appear. Menu from which you will have to choose your image profile, your source. As well as the format. A format that revolves around colors, the type of files as well as the resolution. You will have the choice to manage the options at your convenience.

Note that the resolution should be at least 300 dpi to benefit from enough detail to read the scanned document.

Subsequently, you will have to insert your sheet or document in your scanner and close it. Then you will need to click on “Preview” to determine if the document is positioned the way you want it to be. It is at this time, and if everything is validated, that you will have to click on “Scanner”. A penultimate step therefore, which will allow you to obtain the scanned document.

Save your document

The very last step will be simple. You will need to choose the folder or location where your document will be saved on your PC. Therefore, select an accessible location for easy access.

Once validated, Windows will save your document in the desired folder. You can then access it by going there. In short, scanning a document remains very simple. The two essential points to remember are first to establish a connection between your PRINTERS and your PC or smartphone. And then select the right scanner when you want to scan a document. There may be times when the default scanner is different from the one installed.

So two steps that will ensure fast scans. Remember to validate the definition of 300 dpi, otherwise you will get very low quality images and scans.
