In Germany, Fiat 500s have three wheels

If you travel to Germany, you will notice amazing three-wheeled Fiat 500s. Rest assured, this is completely normal.

Have you ever traveled to Germany? If so, it is possible that you have come across some very special Fiat 500s. And for good reason, these are only equipped with three wheels. At first glance, the cars seem quite normal, since they display a front panel strictly identical to the previous generation. It is at the level of the rear part that things are a little different, since the city car has only one wheel. Finally, rather two, which are then glued to each other and protected by a cover. Rest assured, this is not any design problem, and it is even quite normal, since the car is then approved by our neighbors to be able to circulate on the wheels as a tricycle, despite them. actually have four wheels, well hidden. A transformation carried out by Ellenator, specialist in this type of conversion, which is aimed in particular at young drivers.

In fact, in Germany, as in France, it is possible to conduct tricycles motor from the age of 16. This is why companies have decided to transform classic vehicles, in order to allow young drivers to have more choice, while tricycles are relatively rare on the market. But the changes made to the Fiat 500 are not only aesthetic, since Ellenator has also made some changes to the engine. The power of the little one three-cylinder 1.0 liter has indeed been lowered to 20 horses, against 68 equines on the standard version, while the maximum speed is now limited to 90 km / h. The aim is therefore to comply with the regulations in force for learner drivers, and this also has an impact on consumption, since this is then displayed at only 5 l / 100 km. Power is still linked to a six-speed manual gearbox, like the standard version of the Italian city car.

A transformation at a cost

While this solution has many advantages, it nevertheless has a cost, which remains very high. Indeed, it will first be necessary to acquire a Fiat 500 standard, whether new or used, which will then have to be transformed. For this stage, it will therefore be necessary to go to Ellenator, who charges this service no less than 5,680 €, an amount which then climbs to 5,980 € if you opt for a convertible version. What undoubtedly dissuade a lot of interested, who will then prefer to wait to pass the driving license.
