For its debut in the world championship, the Ypres rally takes place from August 13 to 15. On television or on the internet, how can you see the 20 specials?

After discovering Croatia in the spring, the world rally championship sets out to conquer a new destination by putting its wheels on the tarmac ofYpres. Belgium thus becomes the 35th country to host a world rally championship event since the discipline’s launch in 1973. Although this is his baptism of fire in the WRC, the Ypres rally is not a young first. This round on asphalt benefits from a rich history, over more than half a century, having dedicated several renowned French pilots, such as Bernard Darniche (1977), Jean-Claude Andruet (1981) and Jean Ragnotti (1985). Obviously, the Belgian pilots have distinguished themselves on numerous occasions, notably Freddy Loix, record holder for the number of wins (11), while Thierry Neuville won in 2018 driving a Hyundai i20 R5.

Ypres, the 20 stages live …

Ypres’ big WRC debut could have happened last year, when the Belgian rally had integrated the calendar to compensate for the many cancellations resulting from the pandemic, before having to give up too because of the organizational difficulties caused by the health crisis. For this 2021 season, he was simply on the reserve list and it is the defection of his British counterpart that has earned him to be promoted to the rank of incumbent. Contested entirely on tarmac, the Ypres rally is the 8th of 12 stages on the program of the current WRC calendar. For its 2021 edition, it offers a relatively compact menu with around 295 km timed divided into 20 specials, from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 August.
