A specialized company has installed a Tesla engine in a classic Mini to give it 300 horsepower.
Have you ever had the chance to get behind the wheel of a classic Mini? If so, you probably know how fun and especially lively this car is, despite its small engine. No wonder it still appeals to enthusiasts very widely, even more than sixty years after its launch in 1959. But what happens if you transform one of these little English cars to add an engine electric? This is what the teams wanted to knowElectric Classic Cars, a company specializing in the retro fit of old cars. And the least we can say is that the result is rather convincing!
Tesla Motor
The teams behind this somewhat crazy project have therefore decided to replace the four-cylinder 850 cm3 and 40 horsepower of the English city car of 1967, in order to replace it with an electric motor taken from a Tesla. With 300 horsepower, it is then associated with a 33 kWh battery, allowing the Mini to travel around 240 kilometers on a single charge. But the real feat remains the very small weight gain, of only 40 kilos, despite the addition of the entire electric propulsion system, a total of 700 kilos. A real tour de force, which portends great sensations behind the wheel.
If you want to transform your old Mini into an electric car, know that the firm now offers to retrofit your vehicle, offering it a 122 horsepower engine and a battery allowing it to travel up to 160 kilometers on a single charge.
