The Seat Ibiza has reached mid-career. So, even if you can’t see it, this versatile city car is undergoing some minor upgrades.
In the jargon of the automotive press, we speak of “trying out a grille” when we go to the presentation of a car that has undergone a purely aesthetic development. In the context of the Ibiza, this is not even the case: the little spanish girl hasn’t changed her front face.
Officially, this stylistic immobility is explained by the first purchase criterion of the Ibiza, which remains, according to Seat, its appearance. Unofficially, it is also a matter of money, the modifications of molds proving to be extremely expensive.
Minimum service, therefore, for this fifth generation of Ibiza, which is satisfied with new rims, two new body colors, 100% LED headlamps and a “handwritten” typology for the lettering on its tailgate.
On board, as in the also restyled Arona, we will note some adjustments, with a new screen in the center of an advanced dashboard and more qualitative materials. The regulars of the current Ibiza will not however be disoriented in this one.
The pleasant ergonomics, the presence of storage and the good driving position are arguments.
And theroominess in the rear seats is superior to that offered by French rivals that are the Clio and 208, while the cube trunk 355 liters of capacity.
In terms of driving, the Ibiza also retains all its character: not a bolt changes on the side of the running gear or on the chassis, shared with the Volkswagen Polo.
The cushioning retains this small firmness at first glance, without degrading the comfort, while the steering remains precise and well assisted.
Lack of 95 hp version – the best-selling engine in France – available for testing, the pleasant 3-cylinder 1.0 TSI of our model claimed 110 hp, a cavalry that bodes well for a car of this size.
But the Ibiza suffers fromtoo long a gearbox staging : the third report allows to spin up to 145 km / h, on the foreign roads of our grip.

As a result, you have to downgrade regularly to relaunch the Ibiza. The engine is however stingy in vibrations, available in town and discreet.
Devoid of any form of hybridization, even slight, this mechanism makes it possible to override the penalty, but certain competing engines are more sober; our consumption was 6.2 l / 100 km despite calm driving.
Best-selling model in Seat history, the Ibiza can also count on its modern and complete equipment to seduce.
It competes with dignity its badged rivals 208, Clio, Yaris, Polo, C3, Corsa or Fiesta, the latter, on the verge of being restyled, however displaying an attractive price / equipment ratio.
Seat Ibiza 2021 test – our opinion:
The evolutions do not ultimately change much in this Ibiza, even if the interior presentation seems more flattering. Always elegant and pleasant, the Spanish is not without interest.
