Expected for 2024, the next electric city car from Skoda should be called Elroq. It could then replace the Fabia.
If you are an automobile enthusiast, or at least have a little interest in it, you are aware that things change very quickly. Particularly in terms of legislation, at the time of the great CO2 hunt operated by the public authorities. Today, every gram is tracked down and sanctioned, whether through the increasingly severe ecological penalty, or with the CAFE regulations. As a reminder, this forces manufacturers to reduce their polluting emissions so as not to exceed the threshold imposed on each, at the risk of incurring a colossal fine. It is therefore logical that all the brands decide to go electric, while some have already announced their desire to no longer offer this type of vehicle more or less soon. If Skoda has not taken such a radical decision yet, the Czech firm is however keen to expand its range of zero-emission models in the years to come.
This will therefore logically involve the introduction of new vehicles in the catalog, in order to expand the range while electrifying it. And precisely, we are starting to know a little more about a brand new car, which should see the light of day by 2024. If no information has yet been officially revealed, it could then bear the name ofElroq, the latter having just been registered by the mark. However, this one is far from being definitive, while the boss of Skoda, Thomas Schäfer affirms to our colleagues ofCoach that “ naming will be the last step [du développement] and we probably won’t make up our minds in the next twelve months “. Anyway, this newcomer to the range should not directly replace the Citigo, which has already disappeared from the range but will in reality take the place of the current Fabia, which has just been renewed.
Czech cousin
If we still know very little about this future Skoda Elroq, one thing is however almost certain: it will be equipped with a 100% electric motor. Based on the MEB platform, already well known within the Volkswagen group, the zero-emission city car should share its technical base as well as its powertrain with its two cousins, the Seat Acandra and the Volkswagen ID.2, which should see the day in stride. The Czech city car should be the first to show itself to the general public, followed by the other two, which will then arrive by 2025. According to the first rumors, the Elroq should be able to cover between 300 and 320 kilometers in a single charge, and will then compete head on with the Opel Corsa-e and other Peugeot e-208, among others. Its starting price should be below the € 20,000 mark.
