Mercedes lifts the veil on its new AMG GT 63 SE Performance, with 843 horsepower from its hybrid engine.
A few days before the opening of the Munich show, the novelties follow one another so that everything is ready for the German meeting. If most of the models that will be presented to the public on September 7 have already been unveiled for several weeks, even several months, the manufacturers have however decided to keep some surprises, revealed at the last moment. This is particularly the case with Mercedes, which should once again play the stars at this first edition of the Munich show. Because the least we can say is that the program is well loaded for the firm with the star, which will bring in its suitcases the Citan and EQT, as well as the EQB and the new EQE, not yet unveiled. But now another surprise has just been formalized, making the happiness of sports fans. And for good reason, it is a brand new version of the AMG GT, called Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance.
Behind this name, which may seem a little barbaric, actually hides a very high-performance version of the four-door sedan, which then becomes the most efficient hybrid model of the star brand. However, at first glance, the sports car seems rather discreet, especially compared to an AMG GT-R yet accumulating less horsepower under its hood. Inaugurating the new E Performance brand dedicated to electrified models, the sedan retains a fairly sober style, however affirming its sporting ambitions through its large air intakes at the front as well as its four exhaust outlets and its spoiler at the back. Inside, the presentation plays the card of sportiness, with red inserts that can be found on the dashboard and seat belts. The general presentation remains unchanged compared to what we have already known for quite a while on theAMG GT four-door standard.
843 hybrid horses
Exceeding the radical AMG-GT Black Series in terms of power, this new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance has a V8 biturbo associated with an electric motor placed on the rear axle. A fruitful alliance, which allows the sedan to develop no less than 843 horsepower for a maximum torque of 1,400 Nm, with a 0 to 100 km / h achieved in less than three seconds and a maximum speed of 316 km / h. However, if the sportswoman obviously wants to be radical in terms of performance, she nevertheless knows how to be more sober and discreet when necessary. Indeed, its 6.1 kWh battery then allows it to travel approximately 12 kilometers in 100% electric mode. If the capacity may seem a bit weak, Mercedes-AMG promises that the performance of the latter will be preserved in sporty driving, thanks to a liquid cooling system making it possible to maintain the temperature at 45 °.
For the moment, Mercedes-AMG has not yet revealed the precise date of marketing of its new sports sedan, which should undoubtedly arrive in dealerships during the next year. Its prices are not yet known either, but there is no doubt that the bar of 100,000 € will be easily crossed. In addition, its hybrid engine allows it to reduce its CO2 emissions to “only” 196 g / km, and therefore to lower the penalty, posted at 13,682 €.
