A few days before the Munich Motor Show, Cupra unveils its UrbanRebel, a concept of high-performance electric city car.
While the first edition of the Munich show is about to open its doors at the beginning of next week, the manufacturers are fine-tuning the last details and unveiling the latest novelties that will be present on their stands. The opportunity to discover some surprises, while waiting for the opening to the public of the German meeting, from September 7 to 12. And today, it’s Cupra’s turn to be talked about, while the firm is planning a 100% electric program during the event, notably by presenting its new Born, a zero-emission compact, technical cousin of the Volkswagen ID.3 already on the market. But the Spanish firm, now completely independent from Seat since 2018, will bring another novelty in its suitcases. This time, it is a concept, once again electric, announcing a production model which will then be launched in the course of the year 2025. And the least we can say is that it is far from going unnoticed.
Baptized Cupra UrbanRebel, this style study adopts resolutely aggressive lines, especially at the front, with its imposing shield incorporating a blade, for optimized support. The profile is very clean, the city car then adopting a very trendy coupe silhouette, with its sloped roof, which should largely inspire the production version. But it is especially the rear which remains the most confusing, with its immense spoiler, which overhangs a huge diffuser, obviously devoid of exhaust outlets. Of course, the version that will actually be offered to customers should largely settle down, while retaining certain elements of this delusional concept. Anyway, the aim is rather to announce that the brand is currently working on a sporty city car, which is currently lacking in the range. The interior has not yet been shown, but it could then slightly evolve compared to the current productions of the mark.
Totally unbridled
You will understand, the designers and engineers of Cupra let loose during the development of this UrbanRebel. And this can also be seen on the technical sheet, totally delusional! Resting on the new MEB platform dedicated to electric vehicles, the sporty city car therefore logically embeds a zero-emission engine displaying no less than 340 horsepower, with a peak power reaching 435 equines. Enough to bring down the 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.2 seconds, although the production version should probably be a little wiser on this point. Anyway, if it does see the light of day, it should then be able to compete with the future electric city car from Alpine, which should make its appearance in the range in 2024, with an announced power. at around 200 horses.
