Beating the Volkswagen Golf, Peugeot 208 and other Toyota Yaris, the Dacia Sandero is now the best-selling car in Europe.
There was a time not so long ago, when the Volkswagen Golf was the undisputed queen of sales in Europe, systematically winning first place in the ranking coveted by manufacturers. Except that times have changed, and the German compact now seems to have more and more competition. And this one comes from everywhere, from France as well as from far more distant countries. Indeed, a few months ago, the star of the Wolfsburg brand had its place stolen by a rival until then underestimated: the Toyota Yaris. Renewed last year with a more assertive style and a revised hybrid engine, the Japanese city car had then attracted my favors from European customers. A few months later, it was the turn of a Frenchwoman to settle on the first place of the podium, since the Peugeot 208 then became the best-selling model on the Old Continent. But now the rule of the tricolor city car ended in July, it having then been replaced by another visibly very popular model as well.
This is the Dacia Sandero, just renewed last year, inheriting the technical basis of the current Renault Clio 5 and offering much more modern lines. More sophisticated and polished than ever, the low-cost city car has won over motorists all over Europe, becoming the best-selling car across the continent at the start of the summer. In total, therefore, no less than 20,446 units found buyers during the month of July, placing the star of the Romanian brand at the top of the ranking, just ahead of the Volkswagen Golf which continues to follow it, with 19 425 sales. The compact is then followed by the Toyota Yaris, sold at 18,858 units, while the Volkswagen Polo arrives at the bottom of the podium. On the other hand, no trace of the Peugeot 208, which does not appear in the Top 10, despite very good sales figures in France. Unsurprisingly, SUVs are particularly popular, whether it is the Volkswagen T-Roc, the Hyundai Tucson or the Dacia Duster and the Ford Puma.

Renewed last September, the Dacia Sandero has been able to reinvent itself with this new generation, which has been extensively reworked and retains an attractive price, below the € 9,000 mark. Redesigned and taking advantage of more qualitative features, the city car has also seen its interior evolve, with increased perceived quality and a more upscale presentation. From the entry level, it is then possible to take advantage of a nice endowment, including among others the on-board computer, automatic lighting of lights or the cruise control / speed limiter. Under its hood, it is possible to choose from three engines, namely the 1.0 Sce of 67 horses, the 1.0 TCe of 92 horses and the 1.0 TCe GPL developing as for him a hundred horses. No diesel therefore on the city car, compatible with a five or six-speed manual gearbox, as well as a transmission CVT.
