The Munich show is the setting for the revelation of the concept announcing the most expensive model of the Star. Meeting with the Mercedes-Maybach EQS.
Mercedes-Maybach EQS – Based on its 100% electric sedan EQS, Mercedes unveils in filigree the future SUV badged with the Maybach seal. A production version is therefore expected in the coming years. Hopefully it will ignore the 3-volume silhouette announced the ugly Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept, in 2018.
Not in the best taste
With the exception of his autonomy, promised for 600 km WLTP, the Mercedes-Maybach concept car does not deliver no characteristics as to the batteries that will power it, or even about its electric motor or motors. For the moment, it will be necessary to be satisfied with observing its plastic a bit ostentatious. If its two-tone bodywork does not save on chrome, even on its 24 ”rims, the cabin abuses it in uomnipresent pinkish tint, bordering on overdose.
Pullman cockpit
Behind the doors with automatic opening, we discover four individual seats, inspired by the S-Class, equipped withgreater seat height and increased calf rests. These allow the feet to float above the “faux fur” flooring. For its part, the central console seems to float like a continuous ribbon from the cockpit to the rear seats separated by floral decoration and a large storage space, as well as places for champagne flutes or a refrigerated compartment.
MBUX ++
In the front, MBUX digital panel offers display styles and content specific to Maybach. This large curved screen bars the entire dashboard and conceals three screens hidden under a glass plate to visually merge. The 12.3-inch OLED passenger screen has its own display and control area. The entertainment functions are only available there while driving, within the framework of the legal regulations in force in the country. SIf the interior camera detects that the driver is looking at the passenger’s screen, the passenger’s screen is automatically placed on standby for certain content.
From 2022, the EQS SUV
Before the mass production of this variant with the Maybach logo, 2022 will see the start of production of the EQS SUV, a tad less exuberant, and incorporating most of the technologies recently released by the EQS limousine. The electric crossover should claim at least 140,000 €, when its Maybach counterpart will blithely exceed 200,000 €, no doubt.
