Porsche is entering the electric bicycle market with its new brand Cyklær, offering very high-end models.
If you follow the news, you are probably aware that the car is no longer really popular in big cities. In Paris as elsewhere, everything is in fact done to dissuade cars from driving, whether through restrictions with the Crit’Air sticker or speed limits, as is the case in the capital. In short, the trend now is cycling, as well as all the other so-called “soft” forms of mobility, put forward in large urban areas. Indeed, and as Joe Dassin rightly said in 1972, “in Paris, by bike, we overtake the cars”. This is all the more true now, as cycle paths are sprouting up like mushrooms, while traffic jams are still just as dense. It is therefore logical that more and more French people are starting to pedal to the workplace, while the velotaf has met with growing success over the years.
There is no question for brands to miss this phenomenon, while even car manufacturers have decided to get started. We obviously think of Peugeot, which nevertheless produced bicycles long before making cars, and which continues to develop its range of two-wheelers today. But the Sochaux-based firm is no longer alone in this market, since a new major player has just arrived there. This is Porsche, which recently announced the creation of its new brand of bikes, called Bicycles. This was born from the alliance of the Stuttgart brand and several specialized companies, including Storck, manufacturer of bicycles or Greyp and Fazua, in charge of producing various components. In total, no less than three versions of the same model will be offered to customers, of course with very high-end positioning and elegant style. It will then be possible to choose from a green, orange or black frame, according to your tastes.
Ultra-technological
Very light, this electric bicycle has a carbon fiber frame and fork, keeping its total weight below 15 kilos, making it easy to use and carry on a daily basis. Offering a power of 250 watts for a torque of 55 Nm, it is also equipped with a system allowing the electric assistance to be completely deactivated, if you wish to pedal the old-fashioned way. In addition to the support at the front allowing you to install your smartphone, this bike is also equipped with a dashcam, as well as a camera on the back, then sending the images directly to the phone. If all this sounds rather tempting, it will be better to have a well-stocked bank account to afford a Cyklær bike, since the starting price is then announced at 6,999 €, while the more high-end versions are displayed at 7 € 299.
