Unveiled in the form of a concept car by the boss of the brand, the Volkswagen ID.X will indeed have a production version.
Remember, it was unveiled last May, life some photos published on the net. This is the Volkswagen ID.X, a concept car about which the Wolfsburg brand has not communicated much. In fact, to be able to see the style of the electric compact, it is on the LinkedIn account of the boss of the brand, Ralf Brandstätter that we must surrender. And for good reason, for several years, the manager has been very present on this social network, publishing sometimes exclusive information and photos. Just like this Volkswagen ID.X therefore, unveiled through a series of pictures that were, it is true, mouth watering. And left us wondering, too. Is this a simple designer delirium, where this prototype will indeed have a production version in the future?
So many questions that will have quickly been answered, the boss of Volkswagen then giving some additional information on what is none other than a more dynamic version of the ID.3, already marketed for more than a year. And that goes through a revised style, with what looks like a mat gray covering, associated with green details, giving indications on the electric motorization which is hidden under the hood. On board, the presentation is strictly identical to the production version, with its touch screen and digital handset, but some distinctive elements have been added, such as the green inserts, around the air vents and on the steering wheel, among others. Note also the bucket seats covered with Alcantara and embroidered with the ID.X logo, giving a more sporty appearance to the whole. According to Ralf Branstätter’s post, the infotainment system was also said to have been changed, although no further details were given on this.
To make this Volkswagen ID.X more sporty, the engineers did not do things by halves, and among other things replaced the original 62 kWh battery with a system with a capacity of 82 kWh. But that’s not all, since a second engine has also been added to the front, allowing the driver to enjoy all-wheel drive and power increased to 333 horsepower, 34 more than the Volkswagen ID. .3 standard in its most upscale version. The 0 to 100 km / h is then achieved in just 5.3 seconds, allowing it to compete directly with the Tesla Model 3. Note that an astonishing drift mode similar to the new Volkswagen Golf R is also integrated into the concept. It remains to be seen whether it will be offered on the production version …
Indeed, the boss of the brand has indeed confirmed at the Munich show that this Volkswagen ID.X will be produced, probably under the name of Volkswagen ID.3 GTX. In addition, the German firm is also in the process of working on a convertible version of the electric compact.
