Will the future Audi RS6 be electric? – The revelation, last March, of a Audi A6 electric concept car never ceases to fuel rumors. Expected in 2023, the resulting production version will not, however, eclipse the thermal and hybrid A6 family, as we know it. But in the longer term, one can wonder if it will experience a succession using fossil fuels again. A hypothetical disappearance that would seal the fate of the iconic RS6.

The last dinosaur?

In the early 2010s, aficionados of the high-powered station wagon had already endured the mourning of the V10 block of the C6 generation, yet replaced by an even more powerful V8. But in a few years, they may have to attend thefinal extinction of this dinosaur, under environmental pressure. Audi hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but it is very likely that the 4 rings will give up the development of a new generation with internal combustion, as the issues of electrification monopolize budgets within the Volkswagen group. It’s a safe bet that the current A6, as well as its S6 and RS6 derivatives, will see their career play extra time, beyond 2025, until they die their beautiful death before 2030.

A promising platform

Since then, there is every reason to believe that the Audi A6 e-tron will also break, the favorite body type of the RS6 crest. We already know that the new PPE platform, to be launched by the Q6 e-tron SUV in 2022, will allow a power level of 350 kW (476 ch), for a torque of 800 Nm, in order to catapult the 0 to 100 km / h in less than 4 seconds. Performance very close to those touted by the current RS6 with V8 block, which delivers more than 600 hp.

Around 700 hp?

Fort ofPorsche Taycan experience who supplied their technology to the sedan e-tron GT, Audi would have no trouble developing an RS6 e-tron around the equivalent of 700 hp. A level of power that would logically allow it to go down below the 3 s mark during the exercise from 0 to 100 km / h. What if converting the Audi RS6 to electricity was finally good news?
