Expected for next year, the new BMW M4 CSL is already pictured, still heavily camouflaged.
It has been quite a short time since the new BMW M4 was unveiled, since its officialization dates back barely a year, when it was presented alongside the M3, both sharing many technical characteristics. A few months later, in May to be precise, an even more powerful xDrive version was added to the catalog, cutting down from 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.4 seconds, or four tenths less than the rear-wheel drive version. But now the brand is preparing an even more nasty variation, already mentioned for several months while the Bavarian firm had for its part wanted to confirm nothing. But now our colleagues at Automedia came across a heavily camouflaged prototype, in the middle of a road test session. The opportunity to learn more about this new version, which promises to be lighter and more powerful than the standard version.
For the time being, it is difficult to list with precision the aesthetic evolutions brought to this future BMW M4 CSL, which of course takes the front of the Competition version, already well known and somewhat criticized at its launch. We find in fact the famous and controversial grille, which should however undergo slight changes. This should be surrounded by enlarged air intakes, while the light signature might also change. At the rear, we notice the presence of a small “duck tail” fin on the trunk, while the diffuser, very probably largely modified, accommodates four exhaust outlets. The taillights also should benefit from a new stroke of the pen, while they are largely hidden. On board, the presentation should remain identical to the M4 Competition, while gaining in exclusivity and sportiness, with no doubt specific details, which will be detailed a little later.
Rise in power
Of course, this new BMW M4 CSL should also benefit from numerous technical improvements, in particular by losing a lot of weight on the scales, thanks to the massive use of carbon fibers. According to Automedia, the German sports car should then display a total weight of 1,435 kilos, against 1.8 tons for the standard version. Of course, the six cylinders in line 3.0-liter biturbo is renewed, but sees its power go from 510 to 540 horsepower on this new version. For now, that’s about all we know about this variation of the Bavarian sports car, whose production should be very limited, although the brand has not given any details on the number of copies. that will be sold.
Anyway, this BMW M4 CSL should be officially unveiled in the coming months, while its launch is scheduled for June 2022. A marketing which should then coincide with the 50th anniversary of BMW Motorsport. A special series of one of the models in the M range could also see the light of day on this occasion, although nothing has yet been confirmed by the manufacturer.
