Rolls-Royce Spirit of Innovation electric plane gets its first flight

Rolls-Royce has just passed a major milestone in itselectric plane who has just completed his first flight. Powered by its 400 kW electric motor developing 500 hp, the Spirit of Innovation took off on September 15 at 2:56 p.m. from Boscombe Down Air Base in Wiltshire, England. The flight lasted 15 minutes and went off without a hitch.

With this electric plane, Rolls-Royce intends to break the world record of speed while flying at more than 480 km / h. The propulsion and battery technology developed for this project called ACCEL (Accelerating the Electrification of Flight) will be available in various solutions for the urban mobility Aerial. Thus, future customers of Rolls-Royce will be able to adopt it to design airplanes but also flying taxis vertical take-off and landing.
