New Volkswagen ID.4 GTX 2021 – Anxious to spice up his career, the placid 100% electric SUV offers itself a more powerful variant, called GTX. A brand-new Volkswagen badge that will be worn by the brand’s battery-powered sports cars in the future, alongside the iconic GTI coat of arms.
GTX: three letters that smell like the 80s and refer the collective French imagination to sassy sedans of the Renault 18 and Peugeot 305 type. But that’s for the blink of an eye, far from the world advocated by the German SUV, except this small odor, unoiled, tinged with sportiness.
Nearly 300 electric hp
Until now available with engines of 109 kW (148 hp), 125 kW (170 hp) and 150 kW (204 hp), Volkswagen ID.4 relies on Audi Q4 e-tron to achieve its ends. He inherits in particular his duo of electromotors cumulating 220 kW (299 hp) that balance between the front and rear axles, to provide 4 wheels driving at GTX.
The resulting performance is similar to that of the 4-ring cousin, allowing the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX to bring down the 0 to 100 km / h in 6.2 s, when the maximum speed tops out at 180 km / h. At a slower pace, the 77 kWh battery promises up to 480 km of autonomy, while the optimum charging capacity reaches 125 kW. Thus, it is possible to recover 300 km of autonomy after a 30-minute connection to an Ionity type supercharger.
Design and children
Look side, we expected a more demonstrative ID.4 GTX, in comparison with the sporty models so far offered by Volkswagen. Here, no honeycomb grille, even less prominent shields. The GTX doesn’t even bother to give its rims a makeover. Only the side scoops of the front bumper are replaced by a trio of vertical LEDs, when the mirror caps revise their look. A little short, young man …
We regret that Volkswagen did not agree to more modifications to beef up the game of the ID.4 GTX, in terms of style. Especially sincea solution exists, at less cost, to reheat the machine. Indeed, in the Chinese market, the ID.4 comes in a variant called X which has optics, grille, shields and rims dedicated to its dynamic character.
The ID.4 X, dedicated to the Chinese market, differs more from the classic ID.4.
It is ultimately on board that the changes are most notable, in a bluish atmosphere enhanced with red stitching. A color that is also echoed by the play of ambient light, as well as the pattern of the seats, branded GTX.
Prix Volkswagen ID.4 GTX
Finally, we are a little bit hungry with the sportiest of the ID family. 4, far too close to the range mainstream, in terms of design. A weakness that the GTX compensates by improving its performance, as can be seen by first customers, delivered at the end of the year. For that, they will have to pay around € 49,950, the price advertised on the German market.
