The most famous of the converted vans is preparing for a resounding comeback, in 2022, with 100% electric engines. A new VW Combi named ID.Buzz.
Volkswagen ID.Buzz 2022 – Unveiled four years ago at the Detroit Auto Show, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Concept will come to fruition in series from next year. Despite the absence of round optics on its facies, it will try to revive the legend of the VW Combi by converting to electric. The darling of hippie communities intends to seduce their descendants, trend Greta Thunberg, little nostalgic for fossil fuels.
Retrofit Trend
A few months after the revelation of the new Volkswagen Multivan, focused on thermal and hybrid engines, its counterpart 100% electric will display a completely different silhouette. Betting on the vintage spirit of the VW Combi, more than 70 years after the launch of the very first copy, it will take over the vertical bow to enhance its cubic appearance. The European market should be satisfied, initially, witha variant extending over less than 5 meters, when the USA will be entitled to a long wheelbase version (about 3 meters), to happily exceed 5 meters in total length.
Up to 550 km
The Wolfsburg automaker has confirmed battery capacities from 48 kWh to 111 kWh, and the autonomy is estimated at about 550 km WLTP. The single-engine versions will be satisfied with 150 kW (201 hp) at the rear wheels, and the top speed will be limited to 160 km / h, just like the ID.4 and ID.3. Of course, Volkswagen is also developing a dual motor option, for better traction, the power level of which could reach 375 hp.
Volkswagen ID.Buzz Price
Marketed in 2022, the new Volkswagen ID.Buzz should start its prices around € 35,000 in the Cargo version, intended for professionals. Thereafter, there is no doubt that Westfalia-type preparers will seize it in order to transform it into a motorhome, to the delight of globetrotters.
