Back after two years of absence, the Geneva Motor Show unveils its first details, while adapting to the pandemic.
We are finally starting to see the end of the tunnel. After more than a year and a half of a Coronavirus epidemic that seems to drag on, we finally see the end of this difficult period. After a mess of cancellations since March 2020, it seems that trade shows and other events are finally making their comeback. It is the IAA in Munich that opens this new post-Covid period, with a first edition that has just opened its doors, in a form very different from what we knew until now. But this is not the only meeting to come back in force, since after two consecutive cancellations, it is the turn of the Geneva Motor Show to announce its return at the beginning of next year. While it should also be exported to Qatar from 2023, the Swiss event will indeed return in February, in a slightly different form. The first details have just been unveiled by Sandro Mesquita, Director General of GIMS.
Unsurprisingly, this new edition of Geneva show will be marked by the pandemic, while his boss announces that the gauge of visitors will be reduced compared to previous years. While the event brings together an average of 600,000 people each year, it should only welcome half of them in 2022. And for good reason, as in France, the conditions of access to the salons are strict, and only reserved for people who have recovered. or vaccinated. However, and despite the restrictions, the director of GIMS wants it to remain ” a popular fair ” in which ” visitor is also an actor “. This edition should also reduce its total area by 20%, but Sandro Mesquita still wants to be reassuring, saying that 60% of the available areas have already been reserved. By whom, we do not yet know, while no manufacturer has yet confirmed its plans for this next edition of the Geneva Motor Show.
Automotive oriented
Yes the Munich fair wishes to become the trade fair for all types of mobility, at the risk of somewhat destabilizing visitors, the Swiss event for its part is keeping a classic form, always putting the car in the spotlight. And to confirm it, Sandro Mesquita does not go through four paths, telling AFP that ” there will be no bikes, scooters, drones. It corresponds to our DNA, to who we are. It also corresponds to a conviction: we need a platform for the automobile “. According to him “ the automobile is always a dream », And there is therefore no question of putting it in the background. In addition, this formula entirely dedicated to cars should allow the show to stand out, at a time when these events leave more and more room for soft mobility.
