New DS7 Crossback (2022) – From the quartet of compact SUVs in the Stellantis constellation (Peugeot 3008, Opel Grandland, Citroën C5 Aircross and DS7 Crossback) it is the representative of the premium branch which will soon undergo a refresh, five years after its launch. Beyond the changes made to the look and its equipment, it is rumored that it could also simplify its name.

DS7, all short?

We owe this information, to be taken with a grain of salt, to the forum Worldscoop, which has long been a specialist in automotive rumors. According to one of its members, it seems that the large premium SUV will simply drop the Crossback name in order to simplify the reading of the range. This redesign should also affect the little brother DS3 Crossback which will also benefit from an aesthetic update by the end of the year.

The DS4 as benchmark

Since the beginning of April, we know a little better the extent of the modifications granted to the DS7 Crossback, in order to ensure its second part of its career, since a camouflaged prototype was surprised in a parking lot, and immortalized by a paparazzi. Snapshots as close as possible to the plastic of the new SUV which provide precise information on its design advocating the shock of simplificationin line with the codes initiated by the recent DS4. The compact clearly favors style over artifice, and plays the chromium decay.

Heavy investments up front…

In detail, we perceive new front optics rid of rotating headlights which formed an astonishing ballet when the machine was unlocked, to flatter its owner. These “unpublished” eyes overlook vertical daytime running lights within a block comprising a thick main LED adjoining four more discreet nets of light. Nothing new with regard to the bonnet and the front fenders, let alone at the level of the doors. In profile, however, the new DS7 Crossback sports redesigned rims improving aerodynamics. Modifications are also observed at the rear of the vehicle which, again, seems to be mourning the chrome decorations which underlined the lights. The latter sport, in any case, a new silhouette whose base goes back to the midpoint of the tailgate. Heavy changes that forced the engineers to review the design of the lower part of the openingless rebounded than before, since giving pride of place to the salient lines.

Meager developments on board?

The discovery of this prototype completing its development also made it possible to judge the improvements made to the passenger compartments. Up to 360 hp?

Under the hood, we can only make assumptions about the expected engine developments. Its cousins ​​3008, Grandland and C5 Aircross have not yet adopted the 180 hp plug-in hybrid block recent 308, Astra and DS4, we can doubt its introduction on board the DS SUV. Conversely, its premium status could legitimately allow it to benefit from the 250 hp variant recently allocated to the DS9. But it would not be surprising to see the restyled DS7 Crossback enjoying the 360 hp plug-in hybrids from a certain Peugeot 508 PSE to add a sports variant to its catalog, in particular with a view toworry the Audi SQ5.

Price new DS7

The reveal of the new facelifted DS7 Crossback is expected before summer, when its marketing will probably take place at the start of the school year. On the price side, we must expect a slight inflation which should increase its entry ticket over €40,000.
