With its GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition, Ford wishes to pay tribute to the historic treble achieved in 1966 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, by its GT40s.
In 1964, Ford presented one of the models that was to make its legend: the GT40. Two years followed, before the GT40 MK II pulled off the feat at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with a hat-trick, notably against Ferrari. 56 years later, the Dearborn brand pays homage to this glorious pastthrough a new version of its GT: the GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition.
The name is already an evocation of this sporting past. Holman Moody was indeed the team responsible (along with Shelby American) for reworking the GT40 MK II after the 1965 Le Mans race. The goal was to win the following year. And to progress, nothing beats riding. In eight days of January 1966, the GT40 MK II chassis n° P/1016 covered more than 265 laps. Enough to work on just about everything, even an automatic transmission, in order to gain in competitiveness.
The Ford GT Holman Moody, a state-of-the-art Heritage
It is in this, through its spirit of innovation, that the GT stands out. 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, steering wheel paddles, carbon fiber body are all high-tech elements of this car. “This latest Ford GT honors the craftsmanship and ability of the Holman racing team Moody’s to outperform the competition,” says Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager.
La Holman Moody Heritage differs from other Fords in its livery. Gold and red, it includes the iconic Oxford White cockades with the n°5 present on the doors, the hood and the rear wing. Which matches the livery of Holman Moody’s 1966 Ford GT40. “Of all the Ford GT Heritage Edition liveries we have done, the unmistakable gold and red theme of the Holman Moody Heritage Edition is an epic tribute to our 1966 Le Mans hat-trick.”confirme Mike Severson.
GT Holman Moody Heritage goes ‘carbon’
Another element related to motorsport, carbon fiber components are legion. On the 20-inch wheels, the front spoiler, the side sills, the rear diffuser or the mirrors, this material is king. The same in the cabin, with seats made of carbon fiber and gold stitching, but also on the side of the door sills, the central console. A number 5 roundel also appears on the door panels
Still in the world of motorsport, a large part of the vehicle has Alcantara. The dashboard thus mixes this component with leather, while the pillars and the headliner are exclusively dressed in this material. The steering wheel finishes are found in Ebony Alcantara.
Like its big sister GT40 in 1964, this car will be to be discovered in a few days, at the New York International Auto Show (April 15-24). The first deliveries of this 8th model in the Heritage Edition series will take place this spring.
