Moto GP: Yamaha – Quartararo, their last year of collaboration?
Immediately, the relationship between the Frenchman and the Iwata builder became fragile. The tricolor has expressed its wishes to see elsewhere if his current stable does not make the necessary efforts to support him in his quest. For now, Fabio Quartararo has not no decision yet regarding his future but his manager, Éric Mahé, has confirmed talks with competing brands. On the pilot’s side, his desire to remain within the fold of the firm who has supported her since her arrival in the discipline seems intact:
« Honestly, right now I’m focused on the present, it’s not like we’re looking at options because I want to leave. It’s not that at all. Right now I feel my priority is to play for the league this year and I don’t have much time to think about the rest.
In a race weekend, I totally focus on doing my best throughout the weekend. But it’s true that you also have to think about my future and we’ll think about it this month or the next,” comments reported by the magazine Motorsport.com.
The reigning world champion notably returned to the Reflection by Pol Espargaro, which indicates that the risk taken by a driver in the event of a change of team is great. Because the adaptation time from one motorcycle to another is long and potentially penalizing if you want to fight for the world title. A perfect example, which corresponds to the situation of the Frenchman, but does not affect him:
« I will do what I think is right. If everyone thinks like Pol [Espargaro], in the end no one will change teams and everyone will stay in the same one. You don’t have to think about these things, get used to a motorcycle or not. If I feel that the bike has potential, it will take time, for sure, because when you spend so much time with a brand, you have habits. Finally, do not think about adapting to a motorcycle. I don’t have that in mind at all.
For me, it is a question of project. It is the most important. Afterwards, for the riding style, you have to adapt, whatever happens. Even with our motorcycle sometimes: we made a huge change in Mandalika. Obviously, it was different, but we got used to it. We feel different sensations, we adapt and in the end, it’s good to see that with the data, it’s easier to adapt because we can make comparisons with a lot of riders.
In my first two seasons, we made a lot of comparisons with Maverick [Viñales]Valentino [Rossi] and Franky [Morbidelli], and we saw how to progress compared to the others. That is what matters. »
