Rolls-Royce announces its Specter, a future coupe that will become the British manufacturer’s very first electric model.
In recent years, a real hunt for CO2 has started on the side of the major European bodies, which has particularly intensified in recent times. A situation which obviously puts pressure on manufacturers, now obliged to massively electrify their range, while the European Union wishes to ban the sale of thermal vehicles by 2035. In other words, tomorrow, at the scale of the industry automobile. In recent months, the announcements of brands that have planned to become 100% electric the next few years will therefore follow one another, from Lotus to Alpine, including Bentley and Ford. Willingly or by force therefore, all manufacturers will have to adapt and ban gasoline and diesel units from their catalog. Even the most luxurious, like Rolls-Royce, which also plans to switch to all-electric in the coming years. But if the firm seemed a little behind on electrification, it now seems ready to catch up with the latter.
And for good reason, the British company has just announced its very first electric model, which will then be called Rolls-Royce Spectre. This one, still heavily camouflaged will then take the form of a two-seater coupe, which could eventually replace the current Wraith which is starting to age. For now, it is difficult to know more about the look of this future model, which takes on proportions close to what the brand has already offered in its catalog for several years. But anyway, this new vehicle seems rather imposing while wanting to be dynamic, with its long hood and its sloping roof line. Of course, the interior has not been revealed either, leaving a mystery to what will be hiding there. Will the brand keep a classic presentation or rather adopt a more futuristic design, in order to mark the beginning of this new era? For the moment, impossible to know.
A zero-emission engine
Of course, Rolls-Royce has not given the slightest technical information on its new Specter, and is content to confirm that the coupe will indeed be equipped with an electric motor. No power figure therefore no autonomy, and we will then have to wait for its revelation to find out more. It will then be better to show patience, since it should not take place immediately, the entry into marketing of this newcomer is not expected before the end of 2023. Anyway, if the firm English has never yet sold a zero-emission model, this engine is not unknown to it so far, although it has already presented several electric concept cars in recent years. Among them, let us quote the 102EX in 2011, and more recently its successor, the 103EX, unveiled in 2016.
A little more patience then, but perhaps you will have the chance to cross one of the development prototypes of this Rolls-Royce Specter. And for good reason, the boss of the brand emphasizes that they will have to travel more than 2.5 million kilometers around the world, in order to be tested in all possible and imaginable conditions. Open your eyes!
