Speed cameras: a new nightmare for motorists?

A new radar will be tested in Spain. Its goal ? Surprise motorists before they have time to brake.

Regarding the game the most repressive radarsSpain has just taken one step ahead of other countries. After speed cameras, each more sophisticated than the next, the country of Cervantes innovates with… anti-braking radar !

Yes, you read correctly. An anti-braking radar. More precisely a mobile radar surprising motorists speeding when approaching… a fixed speed camera! Ubuesque.

To do this, these mobile radars will in fact be placed just before the fixed speed cameras. Even if drivers brake when approaching the fixed speed camera, their speed will have been recorded by the mobile. They will therefore receive a fine. And if they don’t stop…

A new radar to reduce mortality among motorists?

The Spanish Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) will test this radar. From July, 26 cabins will be installed on secondary roads. The objective of this new radar is, officially, to reduce mortality among motorists. If by the way, he can raise a little bit of money… Business is business.

Still, this new radar is likely to give ideas to some of our leaders. Recall that nearly fifteen million PV for speeding are already drawn up each year in France. For a “turnover” rotating on average between 500 million euros and 824.4 million euros (2017 peak). Near 95% of them, however, concern excesses of less than 20 km / h.

Last July, the Court of Auditors moreover criticized the “all-radar” strategy current. The magistrates considered that it would be better “anticipate the possible failure of the driver [enaménageant des] infrastructures so as to minimize the material and bodily consequences of accidents. » Except that education and protection is less simple and it pays less than repression.
