Are you interested in a Maserati? At the moment, 40 luxury Italian sedans are for sale. These were bought by the Papua government but it is controversial.
This is the British daily The Guardian which reveals this An embarrassing affair for the government of Papua New Guinea. Indeed, in 2018, the high local authorities bought a fleet of 40 Maseratis to transport the heads of state who came to the summit of the Economic Cooperation for Asia-Pacific.
A huge expense for this small country, considered one of the poorest in the world. Because yes, these 40 luxury sedans have cost in everything and for everything, some 5.7 million dollars or 4.9 million euros.
A huge sum for a state in which 40% of the inhabitants receive less than a dollar a day. Faced with the controversy, the Minister of Finance John Pundari therefore decreed that the vehicles would be resold at a more affordable price. Hang on tight, here’s the discount. From $ 142,000 per car, it now drops to $ 118,000.
Purchased abroad
As if that wasn’t enough, the Papua government made the mistake of buying these cars in Sri Lanka. Indeed, there is no Maserati dealer in Papua, but it would have been necessary to choose another manufacturer.
The Minister of Finance, again, spoke about this decision.
“We made a terrible mistake. If you don’t have Maserati dealers in PNG, there is no reason to buy Maseratis ”.
An evidence.
