After the Formula 1l’IndyCarl’Extreme E and theEsportsthe Formulas E joins the discipline portfolio of the McLaren Racing group.
This sudden decision follows the desire of the British group which since January 2021 had posed a option to engage in the 100% electric discipline from the 9th season. This follows, in particular, a evaluation period in the Extreme E championship.
McLaren’s Formula E team will therefore be built on the basis of that of Mercedes-EQ, which should be finalized later in the year, as explained by the PDG du group McLaren Racing, Zak Brown :
“McLaren Racing is always looking to compete with the best and the cutting edge, offering our fans, partners and people new ways to be excited, entertained and inspired. Formula E, like all of our racing series, fulfills all of these criteria.
Like all forms of sport that we play, Formula E is racing-centric, but it will be strategically, commercially and technically complementary to the whole of McLaren Racing. We are also pleased to welcome the premier Formula E team that Mercedes has built, which will become a full member of the McLaren Racing family. Although run separately from our F1 and IndyCar teams, Formula E complements and expands our electric vehicle racing program alongside Extreme E.
I am confident that Formula E will give McLaren Racing a competitive advantage through a better understanding of electric vehicle racing, while providing a point of difference for our fans, partners and staff, and continuing to make us advance on the path of sustainable development. »
