Volkswagen has confirmed its intention to extend the life of the e-Up electric city car. This will give him more time to develop the model’s successor.

The Volkswagen e-Up will have another three years of life and will end its career in 2025. The German manufacturer has confirmed this marketing date for the successor to the electric city car.

« Production of the e-Up will continue for another two and a half years said Hildegard Wortmann. VW’s sales manager confirms that “the end of production will happen in 2025”.

With this additional time on the market, the e-Up will have enjoyed a career of 12 years. The small “zero emission” city car was born in 2013, and it received a version with better autonomy in 2019.

After a change in philosophy, the Volkswagen ID.2 will take over from the e-Up. The ID.2 was initially to be the ID.Life concept, but this will not see the light of day.

The e-Up has been a big hit for Volkswagen in recent years, with demand sometimes outstripping supply. This is why in 2020, VW even had to suspend production of the model.

Orders had resumed in February this year, and they were once again a strong success. The manufacturer could therefore manage to successfully transition to the ID.2, despite the three years to go.
