Rolls-Royce is back at the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance with a new version of the iconic Boat Tail, an almost unique model.
Rolls-Royce Boat Tail (2022) – A year after being promised as a one-off (a unique model), potentially on behalf of Jay-Z and Beyoncé, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail resurfaces on the occasion of the Villa d’Este elegance competitionand finally announces a production at three copies.
The British firm returns on the shores of Lake Como to unveil this second opus of the Boat Tail, a model entirely hand-builtwith the body panels being fashioned from aluminum sheets to create a distinctive silhouette inspired by racing yachts from the beginning of the 20th century.
She was commissioned by a patron whose family business grew from his father’s origins in the pearling industry. The client, who is well travelled, internationally educated and has cosmopolitan tastes and influences, additionally possesses a large collection of classic and modern carspreserved in a dedicated private museum.
At the beginning of the ordering process, the customer presented the designers of Rolls-Royce Coachbuild a selection of four pearl shells, personally chosen from her private collection for their unique color and complexity. These seashells inspired the exterior colour, which is one of the most intricate bespoke finishes Rolls-Royce has ever created.
The base of the color is a mix of oyster and rose, with large flakes of white and bronze mica adding a unique pearlescent quality that changes subtly under different light conditions. the contrasting bonnet in cognac colorcreated especially for this Boat Tail, contains fine flakes of aluminum mica in bronze and gold colors, completed with a layer of crystal and glossy matte varnish.
But the centerpiece of this Rolls-Royce remains the “butterfly” design rear parcel shelf, covered with royal walnut veneer, encrusted with rose gold plated stripes with a satin brushed finish to ensure a delicate and sophisticated appearance. The royal walnut has been specifically selected by the client for its properties as it matures over time.
From May 21, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is unveiled during the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance.
