Like all manufacturers, BMW is preparing for a massive transition to the electric car. Its future ‘zero emission’ range will come out of a factory whose construction is just beginning.
In 2025, BMW will start marketing a new range of electric cars. This will be based on a base that the firm calls Neue Klasse, or ‘New Class’ in German.
The production of Neue Klasse cars will take place in a brand new special factory for electrics. It will be located in Debrecen, Hungary and construction began last week.
BMW will thus invest around one billion euros to build this state-of-the-art infrastructure. This electric car factory will include a press and body and paint departments.

Of course, there will also be several assembly lines for the cars coming out of the factory. The plant’s initial production capacity will be around 150,000 electric vehicles each year.
BMW will apply modern manufacturing methods, with digital tools and sustainable technologies. The brand’s objective is to be carbon neutral.
The factory will use 100% renewable energy and reuse materials and other resources where possible. The first model to be based on the Neue Klasse platform and to leave the Hungarian factory will be the future electric BMW 3 Series.
